Nanuet Pizza- Unique Crust

The other night, after hearing for a long time about how great it was from my in-laws, I finally got to try Nanuet Pizza, on Middletown Road in Nanuet NY.

Now, this place is definelty from another era...it's a hole in the wall, but I definetly like the vibe.
An old school community resturant for sure. It's refreshing to go to a place like this, and to have places like this still around.

Anyways, the pizza. I thought it was awesome! The cheese and the sauce...nothing special there. But the crust was very different...unique. It was pie-like, I want to say. Very thin, flaky, and buttery. Definetly worth a try if you're in the Nanuet area.

I'm told this pizza is locally famous, and there have even been requests from people all over the world who wanted it shipped to them or wanted franchise rights (though the owners turned them down).

Landscapers Can Blow Leaves Anywhere!

Recently, while driving down Sprain Road in Hartsdale, I came across an obstacle in the roadway? What was it, you may ask? A wall of blowing leaves. Seems landscapers were blowing leaves across the roadway, off the owners property and into an area across the street where they didn't have to worry about it. Now, maybe that's where they were piling the leaves for collection, but in many areas of the town, landscapers blow leaves into areas where they don't have to worry about collecting or piling them.....even right into the roadway...and leave them there. Many of these landscapers use several backpack blowers at once to accomplish this task, and often leave the roadway debris covered and cause traffic disruption while accomplishing this. I've even seen it go as far a landscapers blowing leaves out a backyard onto Grassy Sprain Road and leaving them there.

As you can see in the photo, the landscapers here blew the leaves so no one could use the road while doing it, onto the roadway across the street. This pile of leaves jetted out onto this busy roadway.

Why Do We Have Homeless Vetrans?

I was in Manhattan this evening.

Something came into my mind.

Why are there homeless vetrans in this country? How can we let those who have fought for the lifestyle and securities we have in this country go homeless and hungry on a street?

Now, I am aware that some is caused by mental illness, etc, but that's not always the case.
I find this disgusting that we let our nations vetrans suffer while we decide on how big of a plasma TV we should get, or how big or fast our cars can be.

Our VA's are rotting away, even with a whole new generation of vetrans coming out of Iraq.
Our vetrans should be cherished and well taken care of. There should be ample employment, food, shelter, and healthcare for each and every one of them....and not a single one should go forgotten.

This isn't only a responsibilty of us, this is a responsiblity of our politicians, many of whom nowadays haven't even seen time in the service.

The Journal News Steals MY Story Ideas!

Well, in two articles published in today's Journal News, they used MY ideas that I have published on this blog, written in letters to them and posted on the town blog, and even been quoted in the NY times about for stories. And I guess that email I sent suggesting this story idea and letting them know of the many issues that were touched on in the article, that I got a return receipt for, but no reply, was meaningless.

Very nice articles and well researched, but I wonder where the ideas came from? I should have at least been quoted or contacted! Hmmmmm.....at least Erin Duggan from the NY Times has journalistic integrity. And BTW Journal News, the NY Times wrote about this over a month ago. Where have you been?

This has been my cause for months, and I have been snubbed!

I'm Never Going To See A Fire!

So, last night my group was working, and I took the night off.
And what happens? Engine 170 goes to Fairview for a working fire.

I am a cursed white cloud. This has happened to me before, it seems whenever I take off, or am off or away, there is a fire.

I am aware that fires come in spurts, and I have 19 more years left on the job, but still it's quite annoying. I don't want anyone's property or lives to be in danger, nor am I wishing that.....I just would hope that when it does happen, it would coincide with my work schedule.

Very aggravated. Oh well though, I enjoyed my night off at least. And at least it wasn't a E170 or E169 first due fire.

We Have It Easy!

When I see things such as this, it makes me realize and appreciate how much easier my generation has it fighting fires. There's so many advances in technolgy and safety, and although some make our job tougher, for the most part, a lot make our job easier and more comfortable. No wonder some of the senior men are the way they are!

Boy, it must have sucked being the tillerman on Worcester Ladder 1 during a cold New England winter!!!

7-11 Coming To Central Ave?

Looks like a 7-11 is opening a new store on Central Ave. in Edgemont/Greenville (Town Of Greenburgh), on the corner of Mt. Joy Road and Central, next to the Hess station and opposite Curry Cheverolet. Where TD Waterhouse used to be.

First new 7-11 I've seen in forever open in this area. And, unlike the other conveinence marts on Central Ave in Hartsdale, maybe this one won't be so ghetto and will know how to actually order and keep in stock Nesquick Chocolate mil.

Telenav Navigation From Nextel On My Blackberry

Today, while in Western/Central Massachussets, I had the oppurtunity to try out one of the features I got my Blackberry for. The voice guided GPS navigation, "Telenav"

I was VERY impressed with the TeleNav! It's directions were quick, accurate, and clear. It's also nice to be able to look up and research addresses, as well as preplan routes and preload addy's.

This rivals the Magellan Roadmate GPS Navigation system that I was considering purchasing for my truck....but now I have one with me wherever I go!

I can't wait to try it out during my next Los Angeles photo hunt!

Music As A Weapon III

Last night, I atteneded the Music As A Weapon III tour at the Mullins Center at UMass-Amherst, MA.

I've attended both previous MAW tours, and as usual, Disturbed topped themselves again.

Mullins Center was awesome. Very clean, easy to use arena, parking was great, traffic was very light.

First up was Nonpoint. They were fun to hear live, especially after listening to their CD for a while. Great, hard band.

Next up was Flyleaf. New to the scene, this band is led by 25 year old Lacey Mosley, who is 4' 5 inches and no more then 70 pounds. But the raging screams coming out from her lungs are amazing. Kinda poppish, but Flyleaf's songs have substance and an energetic passion in them. Think a very,very angry Avril Levine.

The band that took the stage next was Stone Sour. The lead vocalist from Stone Sour is Corey Taylor, also lead vocalist of Slipnot. I haven't listened to this band since their first album came out in 2003, and my interest in them is definetly renewed. Corey Taylor's vocals and songs are awesome.

And finally, Disturbed took the stage. What else can I say but AWESOME! Their set was amazing, featured some awesome lighting, sound, and pyrotechnic effects that went along with the music. They played for a good hour and a half, and did a really cool thing by blending several of their songs into one. As usual, David Draiman, the lead singer, was awesome and his promotion of his message of basically getting along, reminded my why this band is my favorite. All my favorite songs off their three albums were played, and I left deaf. The bass was INSANE. Awesome.

All in all, a great night. I hope to catch them on their second leg of the tour, either in LA or NY, depending on where they play.
